Jean Marie Farina, an Italian perfumer, moved to Cologne in the early 18th century and in 1708 began producing an “admirable water” or“aqua mirabilis”, the name given to water created through distillation. Farina's water was produced using a mixture of essential oils and quasi- pure alcohol according to a technique imported straight from Italy, but he innovated by creating a fresh, perfumed water. Its lightness stood in stark contrast to the essences that existed at that time, such as cinnamon, sandalwood and musk oils. Farina's aqua mirabilis was initially a local success, but it gradually conquered the courts of Europe. It was later called “Eau de Cologne” thanks to the French Army, which popularized it after war campaigns in Poland.

Candle anatomy

The Wick

is made of cotton. One can find many types of wicks, characterized by their weaving and their diameter. The wicks are chosen depending on the shape and size of the glasses, as well as the burning characteristics of each candle.

The Wax

is the fruit of specific developments which are the source of the candle exceptional olfactory and burning qualities. When correctly taken care of, no smoke leaves a Trudon candle and no wax is left on the sides of the glass.

The Emblem

is inspired by a bas relief found at the old Royal Wax Manufacture which used to belong to the Trudon family. Situated in Antony, near Paris, it now belongs to the Church. Nowadays the domain hosts the nuns of the Saint-Joseph de Cluny congregation.

The Glass

is unique and hand-crafted in Tuscany. Its shape is inspired by champagne buckets.
