Anecdote n°5

In the 18th century, oil lamps, candelabras and candles were lit with matches, “tiny scraps of dry wood (usually beechwood) or reeds soaked in sulfur” sold by candlemakers. These long “candle wands” prevented one from having to climb on a chair or ladder to light the chandeliers. Photo : Dimitri Smilenko
