Manon

As happy as a lark, this delicious scent of cupboard and of swilled down tile floors, recall the washing days of George Sand’s heroes and the Parisian laundry maids. Between stacks of embroidered linen sheets on a lady’s festooned bed, lavender and orange diffuse a smell of lightness and neatness.

A "lavandière", or laundress, was a woman who washed linens by hand, in a stream or at a wash house. The laundry was thrown into the water, rubbed with ash, rinsed, twisted and folded repeatedly. It was then beaten with a wooden instrument to wring out as much water as possible. It was then placed in a basket and taken somewhere to dry. In Paris, members of the laundress guild worked in dozens of wash houses, called “wash-sheds”, that were moored in the Canal St. Martin. Despite the hard labour, the laundresses, or washer-maids, were joyful, chattering and teasing amongst themselves.

Candle anatomy

The Wick

is made of cotton. One can find many types of wicks, characterized by their weaving and their diameter. The wicks are chosen depending on the shape and size of the glasses, as well as the burning characteristics of each candle.

The Wax

is the fruit of specific developments which are the source of the candle exceptional olfactory and burning qualities. When correctly taken care of, no smoke leaves a Trudon candle and no wax is left on the sides of the glass.

The Emblem

is inspired by a bas relief found at the old Royal Wax Manufacture which used to belong to the Trudon family. Situated in Antony, near Paris, it now belongs to the Church. Nowadays the domain hosts the nuns of the Saint-Joseph de Cluny congregation.

The Glass

is unique and hand-crafted in Tuscany. Its shape is inspired by champagne buckets.

Maintenance

    • 01.

In order to get most out of your candle, burn it until the entire surface of the candle melts.

    • 02.

To preserve the fragrance, do not burn your candle for more than 3 hours straight during the first third of the candle and 1 to 2 hours during the remaining.

    • 03.

Do not leave your candle unattended.

    • 04.

Keep away from drafts. Keep away from children, curtains and pets.

    • 05.

Should the wick require centering, gently readjust to correct position when the wax is still molten. Allow the candle to solidify before relighting.

    • 06.

Should any black smoke appear, trim the wick, which should be clean and no longer than 6mm at all times.

    • 07.

Always protect the table or surface on which candle is set (with a coaster or a plate, for example).

    • 08.

Do not burn your candle all the way down. Always leave at least 5mm of non-molten wax at the bottom.

    • 09.

Keep your candle in a dry and temperate environment, between 60 and 80° F.

    • 10.

The first use of your candle should occur within the two first months after its reception.
